Entering unknown waters

So I've been suddenly pushed into the world of linux kernel hacking. I've been waiting for this for a long time now, but now that I'm struggling with some kernel and device driver books, I feel soo confused and lost! Well, I hope after being exposed for a longer period to this type of material, everything make sense at some point.

I just did the first step, I'm downloading the linux kernel source code right now. It is 50+ Megabytes of zipped information, which is really scary! OK, download completed, I'm off to new unexplored (for me) terrains!
